Time to Care: A Question of Children (2000)
When John dies of AIDS, Mirembe and Kato must take his sons, Samson and Simon, into their household. Providing for the two boys puts an added financial burden on them and they must temporarily stop the building of their house. Despite their desire to have a male heir, Mirembe and Kato decide to postpone the birth of their next child until they are financially able to support it. They visit Sr. Catherine at the Health Center and Mirembe begins taking oral contraceptives. Kizito is in love with Sonyu, but is too shy to tell her. Following John's funeral, Kizito asks Sonyu to marry him. She agrees and they go together to be tested for AIDS; their results are both negative and they are married. Joy's sister, a mother of 6, comes to the health center with her sick child. The baby has been sick for some time with a lung infection, but because of poverty his parents have been unable to seek medical care. The baby recovers, and Sr. Catherine speaks to Joy's sister about birth spacing and family planning. A woman in the village has an abortion to get revenge on her husband who is having an affair. Later, she becomes ill with an infection and is rushed to the hospital. She dies as a result of the infection. Kato's mother comes to the village for a visit. She is enraged to learn that Mirembe is taking oral contraceptives because she is eager for Kato and Mirembe to provide her with a grandson. She attempts to sabotage the couple by burning Mirembe's pills. Eventually, she realizes the merits of modern family planning methods.
