Activities and Reports

Activities to collect data and report on indicators continued, together with special studies to address specific issues emerging during the course of implementing planned interventions.

The data collection activities included:

Routine M&E indicators: The component complied quarterly indicators from project reports and 80 sentinel sites distributed among the 12 DISH-supported districts. The sentinel sites provided monthly data on OPD attendance, DPT3, ANC clients, assisted deliveries and CYP.

The DISH Facility Survey 2002: Dish Evaluation Surveys: The DISH project in collaboration with the MEASURE Evaluation Project conducted community and facility surveys in 1997 and 1999. In 2002, the project conducted a facility survey which is important for the evaluation of selected project interventions. The final report will be ready in November 2002.

Maternal and Child Mortality Audit System: The Maternal and Child Audit Mortality System is a community based approach to collect data on maternal and child deaths and to analyse the causes of these deaths through death reviews conducted by community health unit service providers. The data is used for advocacy at district and national level.

Special Studies

Quality of Care in the Private Sector: Comparison Between Rural and Urban Area: Following research showing the increased role of the private sector in providing reproductive, maternal and child health services, the DISH II Project increased attention to the private sector. The Project carried out research to assess the level of quality of reproductive health services in private health facilities and documented the practices, perceptions of clients attending the private sector facilities.

Facility IEC Distribution/Monitoring Surveys: The DISH II Project took advantage of the quarterly IEC material distribution and restocking of contraceptives to more than 800 facilities in DISH districts to conduct a monitoring survey at the facilities. This survey focused on key service indicators related to attendance, drug stock outs, drug management, availability of supplies and qualified personnel.

Radio Listenership Survey: DIS II hired Wilskin Agency to conduct a survey of men and women in four districts to assess the reach of DISH-supported radio programs.

Survey of Truck Drivers' Media Habits: In 2000, DISH II conducted a survey of commercial truck drivers at four major border crossings to determine what media they access, what languages they understand and their leisure time activities in stopover towns.
